How To Put On A Condom

Whether you’re putting a condom on yourself or on your partner, you need to get the technique right, so check out these handy tips to help you along.

  • 1. Before you open the packaging, check for any signs of damage. If you’re not sure it’s ok, don’t use it. Check the expiry date and that it is "Kite" or CE marked.
  • 2. Open the pack; be careful not to catch the condom with your nails or on your jewellery. NEVER open with your teeth! Pop the condom out onto the palm of your hand and ensure the roll is on the outside. (It should look like a mini witches hat!)
  • 3. Do not unroll the condom first. Ensure the penis is fully erect, (hard) before you try to put the condom on. Place the unrolled condom, (witches hat-like!) on the tip of the penis. Hold the teat between the tips of your fingers and don’t let go! Roll the condom down the penis with the other hand. Ensure there is plenty of teat at the end of the penis and that there is plenty of room in the condom teat between the tip and the end of the penis with no air in there. No teat or air in the teat will break the condom when the wearer cums.
  • 4. Add lube to the outside of the condom and some on you partner. This will protect the condom and make things more comfortable for both of you.

    5. During sex, keep checking the condom is in place. When the wearer has cum, withdraw immediately. A condom expands to the size of an erect penis and may be left behind if he’s gone limp!
  • 6. Remove the condom and check for signs of damage. Remember there will be some vaginal fluid on the outside of a used condom, which can be mistaken for semen. Check closely - you should notice real damage usually around the teat end. (Check out services for further advice if the condom has broken.) Tie a knot in the end; wrap it in a tissue and dispose of in a bin. Do NOT flush down the toilet, it’s bad for the environment and can block the system!
